| Post subject: | Creating RRD files - newbie |
I have started to play with MRTG and have installed the latest bundle and got it working without to much problems. I am now going to the next stage and starting to add a few extra items to monitor. This is where I am having some problems. I have a CFG file that was orginally created during installation and I have added the extra info. I cannot find anywhere how to update the RRD file - or do I actually need to? I hope this makes some sense thanks |

As long as you have 'Logformat: rrdtool' in your .cfg file, then the first time you run MRTG successfully, it will create the appropriate .rrd files in the WorkDir (called <targetname>.rrd). It will also subsequently update them automatically, you dont need to do anything extra other than periodically run MRTG. You get a separate .rrd per target. I would suggest you keep multiple .cfg files, one per device, in order to keep your definitions tidy (and make it work better with routers.cgi |
