Hi Steve,

When I look into routers2.cgi, the "Invalid data" message logged by line 9622. In the line, it will check the existence of archive directory

(e.g. /var/www/mrtg./.archive./.2012-12-21),

but in my archive rrd, it is located in

/var/www/mrtg/archive/<number>/archive/ClientServer1-Item1.rrd.d/2012-12-21.rrd

In my case, the directory of archive is different that directory named as number and a rrd.d directory.

where the directory named as number should be created by makehash function in rrd-archive.

The RRD Archiving system has two modes - old, and hash. In 'old' mode, the archives went in archive/yyyy-mm-dd/<rrdname>, but in 'hash' mode, they go in archive/<number>/<rrdname>.d/yyyy-mm-dd.rrd. The change was because the search times for available archives went through the roof when the number of rrd files was too big.

Sounds as if your archiving script is running in 'hash' mode, but your routers2 is running in 'norma'l mode... The date is being rejected because Routers2 cannot see an archive anywhere it expects one.

Now, why is this? To run Routers2 in 'hash' mode, you need the latest Routers2, and the archive-mode=hash option in the routers2.conf. I suspect you may be missing the latter?

It may be a good idea for me to make Routers2 auto-detect hash mode in later versions.

The routers2.cgi is in version 2.22. I think it is the latest version. When check the .conf file, the archive-mode has already turn on as

archive-mode = hash

Tried to command this field and the pulldown list will be disappeared. (maybe, absent of this field cause it unable to find the right archive directory).

Then, I tried to go into deep in routers2.cgi, seems that do_archive function is not being called due to archive parameter is not set. Traced back and it may be set around line 9101

I tried to replace the word from 'archive' to 'arch' (as the URL shown is arch=2012-12-21. It can call do_archive function, but the page show that

"This graph has been deleted."

Would it be the reason that it cannot find the archive rrd files?

You are confusing the image archiving (arch param) with the RRD archive (archive param). This is not the correct change to make. The do_archive is used to create archived images and is not relevant in this case.

If you have archive-mode=hash then it should look in the archive/<number>/<rrd>.d directory for archived RRD files; else it will look in archive/<date> for archived RRD files. So, if you are running the rrd-archive script in hash mode, then you must have this option in order for the Routers2 script to see the archives and for dates to appear in the dropdown.

Since dates appear in the dropdown, it seems this is configured correctly, unless you have old-style archives in parallel which would certainly cause some sort of confusion.

In version 2.22, the ;'hash' mode was not officially available and so may well be bugged. It is not listed as new until v2.23beta1...

I can probably send you a copy of 2.23beta1? This can also support merging the archived RRD files into a single extra-large RRD file and provide a popup calendar for date selection. Email me directly on steve@steveshipway.org if you want a copy of this.
