I have installed the Nagios Recurrent downtime 3.2. everything looks fine and it appears that I can set up the schedule, but the downtime does not actually seem to happen.
I've read the Read me file, but I would still like some clarification about how to configure plugin.

1. When I update the crontab, do I need to be logged in as the Nagios user or will root suffice?
2. When updating the paths in the in the downtime_sched.cfg file, there is a line:
my($CMDCGI) = "/nagios/cgi-bin/cmd.cgi";
Should I leave this line as is or should it be updated to point to the location of my Nagios cmd.cgi?

I am now sure I don't have the plugin configured correctly.
It schedules the downtime correctly. I receive emails when the downtime starts and stops. Notifications do not go out during the downtime.

However, I have deleted downtimes from the schedule, but the comments remain on the hosts and the downtime still occurs as previously scheduled.

When you configure the CGI, you need to tell it where the various things are on your system. This includes the URL for the Nagios cmd.cgi (though the default for this is usually correct).

You can run the cronjob as the Nagios user (preferred) or as root, as long as the user it runs as has appropriate rights to read the necessary files and to write to the command pipe.

You must be sure that your Nagios is configured to process external commands in the nagios.cfg !
