I've just downloaded the latest SDK and installed here, and cannot replicate this problem. Possibly there is something extra being set in the environment in your case but I'm not sure what it would be. I'm definitely using the new SDK (use check_vmware --version) and version 0.11 of the script (although its not changed much in the last couple of versions)

Can you see if this happens when you do a simple 'su nagios -c check_vmware.pl' (IE, preserve the root environment and run form the commandline), and also try as other users to see if it only affects the nagios user or all non-root users? Also, check the permissions and ownerships on the /var/tmp/vmware.session file and any config file you might be using.

Other non root users experience the same result. Adding the users to the sudoers file doesn't change the situation.

check_vmware --version returns:

nagios -c check_vmware - I'm not sure how to run this. If I run it from the bin or libexec directories it doesn't execute properly.

I did the installation and edited the configfiles, but i get this in Nagios website (ICINGA):

The command defined for service VMWare: cluster1 Datastores does not exist
The command defined for service VMWare: CPU does not exist
The command defined for service VMWare: Status does not exist

What did i do wrong?

Sounds like you have not added the new plugin to the checkcommands.cfg - you need to define check_vmware to Nagios.

the 'su nagios -c check_vmware' is supposed to run the check_vmware command as the nagios user. I'm trying to get you to check that it runs as expected with the default environment and nagios userID rather than root.

From what you say, it seems that something (probably in your environment) is causing the VMware SDK to operate in a debug mode, producing this addiitonal loggin information that gets in the way. I'm trying to eliminate all things that might be causing this as I can't duplicate the behaviour here.

I DID put it in the commands. Im running ICINGA, here its called commands.cfg, and i have made other commands, so its reading correctly from this file.

Here is my conf.:

Where i define the host:

I now took your commands and edited the hostnames.
I also changed the check command to: check_command check_vmware!/usr/local/icinga/etc/vmware.cfg!cpu!--host="VCENTER01"
So it points to the conf file with the credentials.

I still get this from the screen:
VMWare: CPU CRITICAL 08-02-2010 07:52:03 0d 0h 30m 36s 4/4 The command defined for service VMWare: CPU does not exist

This error message is coming from Nagios, complaining that your check_command definition doesnt match a command definition. So, your check_vmware definition seems to somehow be differrent.

Check that there aren't unprintable charactersin the file; maybe you edited with a windows editor and there is a trailing \r which is messing up the definition? Can you attache the relevant cfg files here so I can view them (rather than just a code snippet which might remove invisible characters)

Also, which version of Nagios are you using?
