In the bookshelf documentation they talk about the following files. Installation 1. Setup the ESX target server(s) for monitoring: Copy the following files to the /etc/snmp directory on the ESX server to be monitored: vmware-statgen-gw vmware_statsgen.conf vmware-stats-gw defesxtop.cfg What do you know about the required files listed above? Basically, they've had the script since a year ago and have been working on it to make it fully compatible with the various versions of ESX. I've been out of the game for a year since there's too much 'real' work, plus a new member to my family, and I've just not been able to devote time to it. GW, on the other hand, have more people who are also paid to do this and have developed a larger and better version which they've dubbed v4.0. The data collection is radically different, so much that I'm almost surprised they kept my name on it (although props to them for giving recognition etc, unlike some other companies who shall remain nameless which stripped my name out entirely from my GPL'd software) So in short, I don't really know much about the current v4 as this is a GW development. As the comments say, theyve completely rewritten the vmware-stats SNMP plugin. |
