Hi, i encounter an issue running this command: ./check_vmware.pl --config=vmconfig.cfg --mode=nagios --guest=SERVER --report=net --debug result is: Starting. Connecting Connected Server Time : 2010-12-06T15:32:57.18974Z Trying to locate SERVER Report type requested is [net] Base is Datacenters Disconnecting... Exiting with status (3) I would like to monitor the network interface of a virtualmachine. But nothing is comming back to my screen. I 'm running vsphere 4.0 with esx 4 hosts. My vcenter Server Settings statistics are: 5min>1Day>2 30min>1week>2 2Hrs>1month>1 1Day>1Year>1 --report=cpu AND --report=mem are running well ?m running the last version of check_vmware.pl ./check_vmware.pl --version vSphere SDK for Perl version: 4.1 Script 'check_vmware.pl' version: 1.0 Perl sdk for vsphere is installed I don't know what i'm running false, so if you can help ..... thx C |

It is failing to find statistics for a VM called 'SERVER'. Either you don't have a guest called 'SERVER', or else you have not enabled the statistics to the required level in the virtualcentre. You have shown that you have level2 stats at 5min, so this should be enough (but try with level3 just incase something is odd, the API keeps changing...) My guess is that 'SERVER' has not managed to identify your guest correctly. Try using the hostname or IP address. |

many thanks for your quick answer. so i set level3 stats at 5 min. And replace guest name by the IP adress and the result remains the same. ./check_vmware.pl --config=vmconfig.cfg --mode=nagios --report=net --guest=xx.xxx.xx.xxx --debug Starting. Connecting Connected Server Time : 2010-12-07T07:39:25.783149Z Trying to locate 10.117.65.221 Now trying as hostname... Now trying as IP address... Guest is poweredOn Report type requested is [net] Base is Datacenters Disconnecting... Exiting with status (3) here is the command but i query the CPU: ./check_vmware.pl --config=vmconfig.cfg --mode=nagios --report=CPU --guest=xx.xxx.xx.xxx --debug Starting. Connecting Connected Server Time : 2010-12-07T07:39:39.595826Z Trying to locate xx.xxx.xx.xxx Now trying as hostname... Now trying as IP address... Guest is poweredOn Report type requested is [CPU] Base is Datacenters Retrieving PerfMgr data Selected interval is: 300 Processing entities: Server Creating query for Server Start time: 2010-12-07T07:34:00Z End time : 2010-12-07T07:39:00Z Retrieving data... It seems to be identifying the guest OK, but not finding the networking stats. I'm not actually using the net stats here in our live system, so I'll need to do some investigation (when I get the free time...) I'll get back on this one, feel free to send me a reminder if you dont hear anything in the next week |

Looks like the -net monitoring is screwed. Possibly some changes to the API in the current version of the Virtualcentre? Anyways; I'll work on this when I get the chance. Might take some time... |

I started investigating on Monday... Seems that the part of the code which processes the NET report is completely missing! So, I'm rewriting the netreport() function now from scratch as I cant find a backup of this part. Everything else is there, though...

Testing net report code now. This does not yet allow you to specify a net interface, just the total traffic for a VM or Host. This is because I have no idea how I managed to get a list of network interface numbers out last time. So far seems to be working for Nagios and MRTG. |
