This could be a failure in the RRDs.so perl module.

Are you using mod_perl? Try disabling mod_perl and speedycgi and see if things give a more helpful respose.

Which version of RRDTool are you using? Maybe upgrade to the latest RRDTool and RRD Perl libraries.

I've heardof issues in the 64bit Cairo libraries which are used by RRDTool. Sometimes, you can get issues if you have the LANG environment set to something not known by Cairo -- try setting LANG=en_US inside Apache, this may help (unlikely).

You can also test Routers2 from the command line. If there is an issue, it will be in the graph generation routines, so you'd need to use 'routers2.cgi -I -D cfgfile.cfg' and see if it produces an image file or an error message. The cfgfile.cfg must be relative to confpath.

Had a look and mod_perl is no called in the apache httpd.conf or anything inside conf.d from what I can see.

Have tested without Speedy and still get the same problem.

Any ideas?

The only idea I have is the libcairo issue that was reported in the rrdtool forums -- this causes a crash of the rrdtool binaries when the LANG variable uses UTF-8, which may be the case here.

All I can suggest is changing to LANG=en_US instead of en_US.UTF-8 and see if that corrects the issue.

Ok I'll try and have a look at that when I get a moment.

It still bugs me that I can *only* produce the error when using firefox at home. If I do it in the office then everything is fine. Ditto if I use IE from home its fine.

Someone has said I should run a TCP dump on my own session and compair it with one from a 'working' client but I've not had a chance to do that yet. I just find it very odd.

Its probably a very obscure bug in the supporting libraries, triggered by additional HTTP header settings (such as the exact character set and language classification). Possibly it is down to the different vars passed over the CGI interface interacting with the graphics libraries? I'm pretty sure this is a libcairo locale issue (this particular thing has been reported in the RRD forums before and is almost impossible to duplicate for people not affected) but not sure how to get around it. Tobi has indicated that he's tried to put code into the latest (trunk?) version of RRD 1.4 to avoid it, possibly by forcing character se toptions prior to calling libcairo functions, but no indication if that has fixed things.
If you can upgrade Cairo, Pango or RRDTool to a later version then I'd suggest doing so as this might help.
