I lost a years worth of history and know its in the logs.
My Reading is Fundamental skills are failing me as I peruse the web and forums.

How do i get the history back into the .png's?

This is MRTG simple 2.16.4: No SNMP, no RRD, no Cacti, no Nagios.
straight notepad and perfmon.exe

In native mode, as in RRD mode, MRTG will roll up and automatically expire the data. If you have lost your log file then you may be able to merge the restored backup and the new one but it is not trivial, especially if you are not using RRD files.

The data will go into the PNG files when it is in the .log files :)
