Depending on the nature of the data, and your polling interval, it is possible that samples fall into different consolidation buckets on the two graphs, resulting in different data. However that should still result in the same totals and averages over time.
Maybe the link has significant noise, or more load than the receiving end can handle, and packets are being dropped, resulting in resends -- so the sending end would show a higher octet count than the receiving end?
