This says to keep 0 daily archives, and 12 monthly archives (provided you have them). Of course, you still need to run the rrd-archive script from your automatic scheduler.
Unless you have other archiving requirements for other targets that are different, I would suggest you should also use your command scheduler to run the archiving script only once a month on the 1st, this would mean that the daily setting is effectively ignored anyway.
