Hello,

i am from Germany and have a little problem with routers2.cgi

Its already installed, i open the Site : http://www.serverip/cgi-bin/routers2.cgi

al right but "No valid Target is selected"

and i can't find where in the /srv/www/mrtg/router/routers2.conf i tell him the path to the router.cfg (where my routers an listed)

System:
Suse Linux 10.3
Apache2
mrtg (newest stable version)
rrd (newest)

all is working with the 14all.cgi but not with this great tool :-(

IT WORKS

Thanks a lot :-)

and the Server is in a safe network, no problems with any security hole

Have a Nice Day, thanks a lot :D

ps. one little question, in the daily graph i have no Peaks, is this an option in mrtg/rrd or in the cgi? @ weekly/monthly i have

my script to make the cfg file
mkdir /srv/www/htdocs/mrtg/$1
cfgmaker --global "LogFormat: rrdtool" --global "WorkDir: /srv/www/htdocs/mrtg/$1" --global "Options[_]: growright, bits" --global "WithPeak[_]: ymwdh" sik-ro@$2 > /root/Sicherung/verwalter/mrtg/cfg/$1.cfg
mrtg /root/Sicherung/verwalter/mrtg/cfg/$1.cfg

how can i display the Description as targetname? not serial2/0 or ethernet2/0, is it possible to show the Stationname , like "Eppelborn"

The daily graph does not show peaks because every data point in the daily graph corresponds to one data sample (ie, 5min interval). Therefore there is no point in graphing the maximum of one sample - it would be the same as the normal graph itself!

You can change the graph title and menu label by placing appropriate directives in the MRTG .cfg file. Read the documentation with routers2 and explains how routers2 deduces what to use for the Targets menu and the graph titles.

There are also options to cfgmaker to change how the description labels are obtained, so you could use port description rather than port name.

but what are peaks then?

i also think peaks are tha kind of "thing" , thats the router/switch save as a "peak" an real bigger load than the normal load/traffic.

and i am to stupid, i think ^^

what must i write in the routers2.cfg to see

############################################################
Target[20.255.225.3_1]: 1:sik-ro@20.255.xxx.xx:
SetEnv[20.255.225.3_1]: MRTG_INT_IP="" MRTG_INT_DESCR="FastEthernet0/0"
MaxBytes[20.255.225.3_1]: 12500000
Title[20.255.225.3_1]: Traffic Analysis for 1 -- nk-wan1.i225.xxx
PageTop[20.255.225.3_1]: <h1>Traffic Analysis for 1 -- nk-wan1.i225.xxx</h1>
<div id="sysdetails">
<table>
<tr>
<td>System:</td>
<td>nk-wan1.i225xxxxx in LOCID:11062 xxx S/N:JHY0645K01P</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Maintainer:</td>
<td>NMC Tel.: (030) xxxxx 8888 / (0341) 993 6888)</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Description:</td>
<td>Router2 House3 in 12345 </td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td>ifType:</td>
<td>ethernetCsmacd (6)</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>ifName:</td>
<td>Fa0/0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Max Speed:</td>
<td>100.0 Mbits/s</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
############################################################

this as a Target NOT that @ ""MRTG_INT_DESCR="FastEthernet0/0"""

with --ifdesc=desc @ cfgmaker it doesn't happend

Peaks are calculated by RRDTool, not by the router.

MRTG makes one sample every 5 minutes (by default).

The daily graph shows one graph point (gp) per sample (data point, or dp), IE every 5 min.

The weekly graph shows one gp per 6dp, IE every 30min. The weekly PEAK line corresponds to the RRDTool MAX RRA, which holds the highest value dp of those 6. IE, the highest sample in the 30mins, of which there were 6 samples.

Similarly, monthly is 1gp per 40dp, every 2hours, and so on.

So, it makes no sense to have a peak line for daily, since there is only 1dp per gp, and theres no point in graphing the maxima of a group consisting of a single value.

Thanks a lot

my cfg Maker do nothing with the anything like --ifdesc=desc :-(

how can i display that:

<td>Description:</td>
<td>Router2 House3 in 12345 </td>

as Target in the Routers UI.

Is there any way to say this in the routers2.conf?!? thats the only way, i think, it will works.

In the routers2.conf, put 'routerdefault=cfgmaker' in the [targetnames] section. This will attempt to parse the PageTop definition generated by cfgmaker and see if it can work out the description from that. This is not always reliable as it assumes certain things out the cfgmaker output which can change on different versions. See the comments in the routers2.conf file.
