Today when I tried view my bandwidth graphs I received the following error:
==
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, root@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache/2.0.54 (Fedora) Server at mrtg02 Port 80
==

So I checked the error_log file in /var/log/httpd and found the following errors:
[Fri May 26 12:30:08 2006] [error] [client 10.10.10.10] Premature end of script headers: routers2.cgi

I also tried running the routers2.cgi script from the command prompt as the PROBLEMS files suggests, and the result was "segmentation fault".

Any idea what may be causing this? I have restarted the httpd daemon and then the server itself, to no avail. Also, I last checked the graphs earlier this week without a problem.

Thanks in advance.

John

Sounds like the perl script is crashing.

Have you recently done any upgrades - eg, Perl, perl modules, RRD, OS, etc? The only way you can get a segmentation fault from a perl script is via a bug in perl iteself, of a library problem. A bug in the script will produce an error message.

Check your perl is working, and your RRDtool, via something like -

perl -e 'use RRDs;'

and see if it works.

If you have done any upgrades recently, they may well be the cause of this.

Thanks Steve.

The only upgrades that were done recently were system upgrades via yum as follows:

Apr 21 09:43:25 Updated: tzdata.noarch 2006d-1.fc4
Apr 21 10:01:33 Installed: kernel-smp.i686 2.6.16-1.2096_FC4
Apr 21 10:36:41 Installed: kernel.i686 2.6.16-1.2096_FC4
Apr 22 07:53:45 Updated: jwhois.i386 3.2.3-3.3.fc4.1
Apr 25 05:51:47 Updated: gimp.i386 2:2.2.11-0.fc4.3
Apr 25 05:52:30 Updated: system-config-date.noarch 1.8.2-0.fc4.1
Apr 25 06:06:13 Updated: gimp-help.noarch 2-0.1.0.10.0.fc4.1
Apr 25 06:08:06 Updated: autofs.i386 1:4.1.4-17
Apr 28 07:08:35 Updated: libtiff.i386 3.7.1-6.fc4.1
Apr 28 07:09:58 Updated: system-config-date.noarch 1.8.3-0.fc4.1

Do you see anything there that may raise a flag?

Also, I tried the perl command you provided and nothing happened. FYI, I am running perl v5.8.6. Perhaps I'll look at upgrading this if at all possible.

I just realized, too, that I ran out of disk space at some point in past few weeks. I have cleared out some old log files and now I have a little wiggle room, but I wonder if that has contributed to my problem.

John

I used your tip about a possible perl script crash, and decided to go back to the installation notes on your site. I checked the routers2.cgi script itself and noticed the first line was calling /usr/bin/speedy so I changed it to usr/bin/perl. Afer doing this, the graphs pages came up properly, but slowly.

So the problem seems to be something to do with the SpeedyCGI script. Any ideas at all??

Thanks.

John
