Thanks Steve, I've got it working now. I had the full path to the executable in commands.cfg, eg /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_vmware INSTEAD of $USER1$/check_vmware.

Can you tell me the syntax to monitor a specific datastore for a host please? I'd like to see the capacity of each datastore presented to the hosts, rather than the entire lot summarised with report=disk

Use --include to specify a regular expression for datastore names to include (default is ALL) or --exclude to specify a regext for datastore names to exclude (default is none). Excludes are processed after includes.

So, --include '^(foo|bar).*disk$' will match anything ending 'disk' and starting with 'foo' or 'bar'. This is perl regexps so you have a lot of flexibility; you can construct a regexp to match a single datastore or more than one.

Is there a way to have the Disk reports back on Used / Total space, in GB instead of 'All filesystems within parameters '?

Eg. '123 / 400 GB in use'

In the mean time I had one of our developers assist me with the following code:

Will this code change the perfdata to graph the USED space on the Datastore, rather than graphing the FREE space?

Hi;

So I found your lovely little plugin heh managed to make it work running it manually, however I am unable to run it through nagios, or executing it using "./vmware_check.pl" however I can run the script using "perl vmware_check.pl"
Lovely error message below:
./check_vmware.pl: /usr/sbin/perl^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

Nagios also throws a "Return code of 255 is out of bounds", I have a few other perl scripts in use by nagios without any problems currently.

You've been editing the file in Windows, haven't you?

You seem to have a ^M on the end of every line, which is confusing the interpreter.

Try this:

vi check_vmware.pl
:1,$ s/^M//
:wq

This will remove the ^M from the end of the various lines. You could use dos2unix instead if you have it installed.
